While the grand hall is the welcoming point and the moment of accession to LAC, it is nonetheless true that the cultural center's relationship with its audience begins here, in Piazza Bernardino Luini, a place that did not exist before, designed and forged together with LAC and now, at 2,500 square meters, constitutes the city's largest square. Already the first impact with the inclusive harmony of this square is a prelude to the aesthetics and vision of the cultural center: a sharing of different styles, historical moments and levels. The transparent geometry of the grand lobby that intersects the neoclassical front of the former Grand Hotel Palace and the volumetric compactness of the museum wing compose a striking polyptych, which the vastness of the square allows to be admired as a whole.
And to enjoy at leisure by taking a break in the small café located in the passageway under the museum, a refreshment point for the public especially during the busiest times. For it is here that the city converges for outdoor performances in fine weather, that families come to discover the surprise of Christmas installations or to watch exclusive shows performed in the theater and broadcast on outdoor screens. And it is always from this door that one enters the old part of the LAC or, lingering by taking in the shop windows of the former Palace commercial area, anticipates the walk that will continue along Via Nassa toward the city center. A perfect implementation of the architectural project, which right here wanted to combine urban renewal and the public function of the LAC even in its outdoor spaces.
